2024 Marshall All-School Reunion Info & Order Form (Parade/t-shirt/Banquet)
Rosie L. Roberson graduated from Marshall High School in 1964, ranking 4th in her class. She then attended Prairie View A & M University, majoring in Nursing. Rosie’s professional career spanned over 42 years. After graduating and passing Texas Board of Nursing exams in 1969, Rosie worked at her alma mater as a Clinical Assistant, enhancing the experiences of student nurses during hospital clinical rotations.
In October 1970, she began working at Houston Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, where she served for 38 years. She spent 18 years as a staff nurse before taking on leadership roles. As Nurse Manager and then Director of Nursing, she supervised up to two patient units with about 100 employees caring for sixty post-operative surgery patients. She chaired the Nursing Policy and Procedure Committee, overseeing the development, revision and implementation of nursing policies and procedures.
In December 1997, Rosie was featured in the Houston Chronicle's HealthCare Professional Update article, “Taking Care, Taking Charge,” discussing the rewards and challenges of nursing management. Her most satisfying moments included supporting, coaching, and role modeling for staff while advocating for patients and adapting to changes in the healthcare environment.
Rosie also served as a Nurse Consultant at Houston Methodist, supporting management and staff with routine and administrative duties, and playing a key role in implementing focus groups and processes to address nursing unit issues. During construction of a New Methodist Hospital, she provided input into the design of patient care units to enhance more efficient patient care.
In January 2008, Rosie retired from Houston Methodist and volunteered as Office Manager and Receptionist for three years at her son's private practice, working alongside her son, Dr. Eric Roberson, and her daughter, Rolinda Adams, a physician assistant.
Rosie is a life member of the Prairie View A&M University National Alumni Association and has been a member of the Prairie View Nurses Alumni Chapter since 2013, serving as treasurer for four years. In 2013, the Roberson Family established the Evelyn Latrece Roberson Memorial Scholarship in honor of their daughter, Evelyn, to support Prairie View A & M University Nursing Students for many years to come.
